The Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR) is seeking to hire a Revenue Tax Specialist III for the Taxpayer Assistance Division in Springfield.  This successful candidate will be the technical advisor to the Division Manager, staff, and the public on highly technical, analytical, procedural or legal application of tax laws administered by the IDOR.  Other duties include monitoring pending legislation and its impact on systems, forms and procedures as well as developing and delivering training to staff, management, and the public.

Job Responsibilities

  • Under general direction, serves as an advanced technical specialist involving highly technical analytical, procedural, or legal application of tax laws administered by the Illinois Department of Revenue (IDOR).
  • Performs in-depth and extensive technical research and analysis of the most complex or sensitive tax issues.
  • Provides technical training and develops, reviews and revises operating procedures and manuals for staff and outreach programs.
  • Participates as Project Lead as assigned.
  • Assists and serves as back-up to the Division’s technical staff to ensure continuity and consistency in training, forms review, testing, outreach events, etc.
  • Provides technical guidance and assistance in resolving procedural, processing and technical Sales and Use Taxes, Individual, Business and Withholding Income Taxes issues which lower-level personnel are unable to process.
  • Serves as a back-up to the Problems Resolution Division staff.
  • Provides customer service by telephone and correspondence to taxpayers, accountants, attorneys, and other state, federal and local jurisdictions, explaining Sales and Use Tax, Individual, Business and Withholding Income Tax regulations, requirements, policies, and procedures, and interprets the application of tax laws, court decisions and opinions as related to specific issues.
  • Develops, evaluates and updates quality review procedures and processes.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.

 

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires a bachelor’s degree and seven years supportive tax related experience, including completion of the Revenue Tax Specialist Trainee Program and three years as a Revenue Tax Specialist II
  • -OR Requires fifteen years of supportive tax related experience, including completion of the Revenue Tax Specialist Trainee Program and three years as a Revenue Tax Specialist II.

 

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires the ability to successfully complete a tax compliance and fingerprint-based background check.
  • Requires the ability to lift and carry up to 25 pounds.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel.

Work Hours:  8:30am - 5:00pm, Monday - Friday
