Essential Functions

  • Conducts routine operational inspections and maintenance on equipment and vehicles.
  • Conducts maintenance, repair and operational readiness checks of radiation detection and sampling equipment.
  • Performs duties of assigned team member on the Radiological Task Force and remains available for callback during radiological and nuclear emergencies.
  • Communicates effectively with supervisor and peers regarding equipment and vehicles status and reports as needed on the operational readiness.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of (a) a Bachelor’s degree with course work in biology, chemistry, physics, electronics, health physics, or equivalent fields and no previous experience; or (b) an Associate degree in biology, chemistry, physics, electronics, health physics, or equivalent fields accompanied by two years of appropriate experience.

Preferred Qualifications

  • One (1) year of experience using instrument maintenance, performance checks, and calibrations.
  • One (1) year of experience with vehicle and other motorized vehicle maintenance.
  • One (1) year of experience preparing oral and written reports while effectively communicating with internal stakeholders.
  • One (1) year of experience with team collaboration and work efforts guided by technical procedures and industry best practices.
  • One (1) year of experience in coordinating inventory of supplies, basic procurement, and workspace organization.
  • One (1) year of experience with Microsoft Suite including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • One (1) year of experience, knowledge, and concepts governing safe handling of radioactive material.
  • One (1) year of experience, knowledge, and concepts of ionizing radiation, radioactivity, and radiation protection.
  • The possession of a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires a criminal history check through the Illinois State Police.
  • Requires the ability to use state-supplied equipment such as cell phone, laptop, etc..
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires the ability to obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License (CDL).
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Ability to become Hazwoper certified at the technician level in both general site worker and emergency response.
  • This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
