Position Overview
This position is accountable for the promotion of highway safety measures and programs. The incumbent serves as the department's advocate for the adoption of highway safety programs. This position also creates and maintains public information and educational materials, facilitates the Network of Employers for Traffic Safety (NETS) program, assists with press and media events, and organizes conferences and events.

Essential Functions

Assists in the development of a network of public and private individuals and organizations interested in highway safety issues. Maintains a network of contacts by providing information on a regular basis.

Identifies and develops highway safety program areas for inclusion in the NETS program.

Serves as a departmental spokesperson for highway safety programs which focus on the motoring public and local, state, and private entities.

Coordinates assigned printing requests to ensure the cost effectiveness, timely completion, and professional appearance of all printed materials.

Coordinates special conferences and events to provide a progressive forum on transportation safety issues at both state and local levels.

Conducts special studies as assigned by the At-Risk Behavior Manager involving a variety of safety issues impacting the department.

Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.

Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in communications, marketing, public administration, or business administration, OR Completion of two years of college plus two years of experience with speaking in public, developing marketing materials, managing a program, managing highway safety programs, or a combination thereof, OR Six years of experience with speaking in public, developing marketing materials, managing a program, managing highway safety programs, or a combination thereof.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience working with highway safety-related grants or programs.
- Strong oral and written communication skills with the ability to speak at press and media events.
- Experience with coordinating press events and conferences.
- Experience developing outreach programs and/or materials.
- Experience with public engagement and diverse audiences.

- Occasional statewide travel with some overnight stays to attend meetings and promote highway safety programs.
