Position Overview:
This position is responsible for coordinating employment programs, processing pre-employment criminal history background checks, preparing employment verifications, and managing the record retention of program files in accordance with the department’s record retention policies.
Essential Functions
- Coordinates employment programs as directed for code and technical positions that are consistent with departmental employment needs as well as the Central Management Services (CMS) Personnel Code and bargaining unit contracts.
- Processes criminal history background checks through the Bureau of Investigations and Compliance (BIC).
- Completes employment verifications for past and present employees according to policy.
- Serves as a record retention coordinator for the Employment Services Unit and is responsible for maintaining a filing system and managing the record retention of assigned employment programs according to policy.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in business, human resources, public administration, or related field; OR completion of two years of college plus two years of experience working in human resources processing and reviewing confidential information, implementing employee policies and bargaining agreements, or a combination thereof; OR six years of experience working in human resources processing and reviewing confidential information, implementing employee policies and bargaining agreements, or a combination thereof.
Preferred Qualifications
- Detail oriented and well organized.
- Proficiency with the Microsoft Office Suite, Adobe Acrobat, and Share Point.
- Experience using mainframe systems or web-based programs.
- Effective oral and written communication skills.
- Ability to handle multiple functions simultaneously in a fast-paced environment within given time constraints.
- Ability to work cooperatively in a team environment; ability to interact with employees in a professional manner and maintain professional and harmonious relationships with coworkers and managers.
