POSITION SUMMARY

The Illinois Department of Central Management Services (CMS) is seeking to hire a Security Guard I to serve as a member of the security team for the Bureau of Property Management’s (BOPM’s) Illinois Central and Southern Region. The ideal candidate will be organized, attentive, and pro-active. This position will be responsible for inspections, monitoring and controlling visitors, contract vendors, and other employees. This position will coordinate with the Facility Manager to ensure proper security and conditions are upheld. This position will perform visual inspection and video surveillance monitoring to serve as a safety control for the interior and exterior of the building. The security team is responsible for responding to and reporting on any accidents, emergencies, and questionable activities that occur during their shift. POSITION ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Under direct supervision, serves as security guard for the Central and Southern Region.
  • Monitors and controls visitors, contract vendors and employees’ access to the building and grounds. Checks employees and vendors badges to validate entrance into the building.
  • Monitors video cameras for suspect activities and immediately reports suspect activity to the local police or facility supervisor.
  • Inspects various parking areas and exterior grounds around facility and reports discrepancies or breaches of security or hazardous unsafe conditions to supervisor or to proper authorities.
  • Takes swift and appropriate action and exercising good judgment when responding to emergencies.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the duties enumerated above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school.
  • Requires working knowledge of facility security requirements, regulations, and work practices.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATONS

  • Prefers professional experience with greeting, communicating security regulations, communicating general information, and directing the public with courtesy and tact.
  • Prefers working knowledge of recognizing and reporting security and safety hazards.
  • Prefers working knowledge of reading work instructions and organizing information into clearly written factual reports.
  • Prefers working knowledge of utilizing security camera systems to monitor premises.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
  • Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to travel in the performance of duties.
  • Requires ability to climb stairs, stand and walk for extended periods during a shift.
