Position Overview

Under the direct supervision of the Information Technology (IT) Security and Data Manager, this position performs highly technical analysis, development, support, enhancement, and documentation of data warehouse applications and data mart user interfaces.  The incumbent is responsible for working with legacy applications developed in a mainframe environment, developing data extraction models, and transforming them to data warehouse objects while providing ongoing maintenance and support of Sequel (SQL) Server Reporting Services (SSRS), SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS), analysis services, and SQL department-wide systems used in enterprise operations.

Essential Functions

  • Provides analysis, development, and support of data warehouse systems and models using SSRS, SSIS, Power BI, and SQL department-wide systems used in enterprise operations and investigates project requests or mandated system changes from external policy groups.
  • Investigates project requests or mandated system changes from external policy groups.
  • Maintains contact with stakeholders and end-users of assigned enterprise production systems to ensure that the technology environment and application system meet their functional needs.
  • Acts as a subject-matter expert on supported systems.
  • Produces extract, transform, and load (ETL) design guidelines to ensure a manageable infrastructure for data marts and business intelligence systems.
  • Evaluates database and data warehouse components including hardware, relational database management systems, ETL software, metadata management tools, and database design solutions.
  • Analyzes and implements cost-effective technology solutions for management problems.
  • Serves as a project team member on scoping, developing, and upgrading existing systems using data warehouse or SQL tools.
  • Provides informational materials and curriculum concerning enhancements and/or changes to development projects for sponsors, stakeholders, and end-user staff and evaluates new software for applicability and value to the department.
  • Evaluates new technology application software for enterprise applicability and value to the department.
  • Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Completion of a bachelor's degree majoring in computer science, computer information systems, computer networking, or database management plus two years of experience with data warehousing and database architecture, OR
  • Eight years of experience with data warehousing and database architecture.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Proficiency utilizing various software including SQL, SSRS, SSIS, Analysis Services, Power BI, and other Microsoft analytical tools.
  • Proficiency utilizing data warehouse ETL and business intelligence systems.
  • Proficiency using the Microsoft Office Suite including SharePoint.
  • Experience with Microsoft development tools
  • Experience with mainframe environments such as IMS/MVS and COBOL
  • Proficient in at least one programming language
  • Ability to communicate effectively both verbally and in writing
