The Illinois Department of Public Health is seeking a highly motivated, organized, professional, and results oriented indivual to serve as the Deputy Director of the Office of Disease Control.  This individual will develop and implement policies impacting the statewide infectious disease programs and provide administrative direction.  The ideal candidate for this position will have excellent project management skills, organizational skills, strong oral communication skills, and at least 4 years of supervisory expereince.

Job Responsibilities

Subject to management approval of the Director of the Department of Public Health, serves as Deputy Director of the Office of Disease Control:

  • Exercises principal policy responsibility for the determination and execution of the functions of the Office of Disease Control and all of its divisions
  • Collaborates witht he agency Medical Director on overall State strategy for controlling diseases within Illinois
  • Manages, directs and controls the activities of the Office
  • Consults and collaborates with federal, state and local counterparts inclding the Center for Disease Control (CDC), federal state and local officials and private sector partners

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with course work in a public health related field; requires prior experience equivalent to four years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public health or health and human services organization; requires thorough knowledge of public health policies; prefers an advanced degree in the field of public health or related field; prefers experience establishing, implementing, and managing public health programs.

Education Degree

Preferably an advanced degree in a Public Health or related field of study.
