SITE TECHNICIAN II (UMP)

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire a Site Technician II at the Old State Capitol for the Office of Land Management. They will perform building and ground maintenance including shoveling snow from sidewalks, minor plumbing, HVAC, and electrical repairs, perform janitorial duties at assigned sites, and assist with interpretive duties and set up for special events. The Old State Capitol in Springfield Illinois is a reconstruction of the 5th State House. It served as the State Capitol from 1840-1876. We welcome all interested candidates to apply.

Essential Functions

• Under direct supervision, performs a variety of tasks of semi-skilled nature requiring the use of tools and some mechanical aptitude of the State Historic Sites at Springfield facilities.
• Performs building maintenance duties.
• Maintains and operates equipment and vehicles used to maintain the appearance and conservation site facilities.
• Provides leadership to seasonal employees and volunteers.
• Performs janitorial duties at all assigned sites.
• Provides support to the interpretive programs of the State Historic Sites at Springfield.
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
• Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions.
• One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
• One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
• One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.

• Ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds.
• Ability to walk over rough and broken terrain.
• Ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR certification.
