Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Children and Family Services is seeking an organized, professional, and results oriented individual to serve as Statewide LGBTQI + Clinical Coordinator. Under administrative direction, this position will administer and coordinate statewide clinical services for LGBTQI + youth. As a licensed clinical social worker, the position will provide expert advice and consultation to child welfare staff, service providers, and community programs throughout the state to address the sensitive matter of sexual orientation, gender identity, and gender expression (SOGIE) for children and youth for whom the Department is responsible or with whom the Department has contact. The position will direct and monitor statewide outreach efforts for LGBTQI + youth and serve as liaison with community providers and national support networks. This position is a great opportunity for someone who is committed to LGBTQI + issues and interested in using his/her skills as a licensed clinical social worker to ensure appropriate services are provided to LGBTQI + youth in DCFS care or with whom DCFS has contact. Essential Functions
- Serves as Statewide LGBTQI+ Clinical Coordinator and subject matter expert for DCFS.
- Provides input into the development of culturally informed resources for supportive services.
- Collaborates with management and staff from other divisions and agencies to develop affirming services for LGBTQI + youth and families.
- Directs and monitors statewide outreach efforts for LGBTQI+ youth.
- Serves as the Department’s LGBTQI + liaison to community providers and national support networks, providing advocacy for LGBTQI + issues and working to facilitate greater respect for diversity through education.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires a master’s degree in social work, with appropriate state licensure as a Clinical Social Worker (LCSW).
- Requires three years of administrative child welfare experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- 3 years of professional experience advocating and working directly with LGBTQI + youth.
- 3 years of professional experience developing and presenting training curricula for staff working with LGBTQI + youth.
- 3 years of professional experience developing resources for youth in care.
- 3 years of professional experience conducting quality review in a public or business organization.
- 3 years of professional experience serving in a liaison capacity for a public or business organization.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties. Requires appropriate, valid driver's license.
- Requires ability to pass a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
- This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.
