Position Overview
Under general direction of the Sexually Transmitted Infections (STI) Section Chief, functions as the programmatic support liaison with the Department of Innovation and Technology and Office of Disease Control staff, in planning and supporting STI modules and STI reporting in the online statewide reporting systems to assure the epidemiological STI needs are met. Directs statewide coordination of objectives aimed at the implementation and maintenance of STI reporting and case management in statewide reporting system. Travels in the performance of duties.
Job Responsibilities
- Plans, develops, organizes, and manages STI reporting and case management in statewide reporting system.
- Develops policies and procedures involved in the design, implementation, and evaluation of the STI modules in the statewide reporting system to accurately record morbidity data and ability of system to identify outbreaks.
- Conducts analysis and evaluation of data from statewide reporting systems regarding STI trends statewide and provides recommendations.
- Coordinates with the STI Training and Development Coordinator the training needs to Department staff, local health department staff, and health care reporters regarding the use of statewide reporting system and basic epidemiological principles used during investigations and outbreaks.
- Coordinates with the STI Information Systems Administrator the development and management of routine STI reporting to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) such as the use of message mapping guides for case notifications.
- Prepares and provides written documentations and reports for the CDC and the Department regarding the status and progress of the development and management of STI modules in statewide reporting systems.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably withing the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Requires possession of a Bachelor’s degree in epidemiology, public health, registered nursing, microbiology, sociology, anthropology, veterinary medicine, biology, psychology, chemistry, epidemiology or a related field, plus three years of professional experience in communicable disease or infectious surveillance and/or control programs at the local, state, or federal level.
- Prefers professional experience in the ability to investigate cases and epidemics of STIs or infectious diseases, ability to participate in investigation analysis/evaluation of outbreaks of infectious diseases, experience in developing or coordinating strategic planning efforts, and ability to analyze disease data.
- Requires excellent verbal and written skills.
- Prefers computer skills, and work experience in word processing and spreadsheet applications (i.e., Microsoft Office Suite products or other similar programs).
- Prefers experience in developing and managing training programs.
