Position Overview:

This position serves as the Shows Manager for the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum (ALPLM), a world class institution that welcomes more than 250,000 visitors every year and that houses one of the world’s best collections of Lincoln-related documents, artifacts and audiovisual materials The incumbent will monitor, manage and oversee a variety of shows and production duties related to carrying out the agency's mission. The ideal candidate will be passionate about Illinois history and portraying stories and characters of the Lincoln Era. The Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum offers a robust benefit package including:

Essential Functions

  • Serves as working Supervisor for the Historical Actor team.
  • Under general direction, organizes, plans, executes, controls, and evaluates all operations within the Shows Unit of the Abraham Lincoln Presidential Library and Museum.
  • Serves as the Ghosts of the Library Theater performance manager.
  • Manages special and recurring theatrical projects.
  • Manages audio narration recurring and special audio based initiatives that support accessibility, narration needs, and interpretive storytelling throughout the museum.
  • Performs procurement and budgeting functions for the Unit.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the
    duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with courses in humanities, design, or communications.
  • Requires two years of responsible administrative experience in exhibition development / show production development.

Specialized Skills

  • Requires two (2) years of supervisory experience supervising staff in a unionized environment.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers two (2) years’ experience supervising staff in a unionized environment.
  • Prefer bachelor’s degree in Humanities, Design, or Communications.
  • Prefers two (2) years’ experience developing exhibitions and or theater productions / programming.
  • Prefers two (2) years’ experience managing budget and procurement.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
  • Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This requires the ability to work evenings holidays and weekends.
  • Requires the use of an agency-issued mobile phone.
  • This position is considered medium work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(c)). Medium work involves lifting no more than 50 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying objects weighing up to 25 pounds.
