POSITION MARKETING STATEMENT

The Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM) is accepting applications to fill the position of Public Service Administrator, Opt. 1 – Special Events Manager. The agency is seeking to hire an independent, highly organized candidate with a positive attitude who enjoys interaction with members of the public and fire service community. The ideal candidate possesses strong leadership skills and is detail-oriented with a considerable amount of experience in the overseeing and directing of small and large special events. The candidate is also comfortable with public speaking in the promotion of the mission of the OSFM and its programs. As the Special Events Manager and employee of the State of Illinois, the selected candidate will have access to state healthcare, benefits, and a pension plan. JOB DUTIES

  1. As the Special Events Manager for the Office of the State Fire Marshal (OSFM), serves as the agency authority for special events for the OSFM, including the Illinois State Fair and DuQuoin State Fair.
  2. Oversees and directs the Medal of Honor ceremony and activities of the Medal of Honor Committee.
  3. Oversees the Fire Marshal’s Life Safety Award.
  4. Serves as a working supervisor.
  5. Performs other duties as assigned or required which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS

  1. Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in business and public administration.
  2. Requires prior experience equivalent to three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.
  3. Requires three (3) years of experience directing the planning and coordination of special events for a fire service or public safety organization.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

  • Prefers more than five (5) years of experience directing the planning and coordination of special events for a fire service or public safety organization.
  • Prefers more than two (2) years of public speaking experience.
  • Prefers one (1) or more year of supervisory experience OR two (2) or more years of experience serving as a team lead.
  • Prefers four (4) or more years of experience independently drafting cost/budget projections for a fire service or public safety organization.
  • Prefers five (5) or more years in the utilization of MS Office programs which include MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, and Teams.

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

  1. Requires a valid State ID.
  2. Requires the ability to pass a background check.
  3. Requires the ability to pass drug screening.
  4. Requires the ability to travel in performance of duties with overnight stays as appropriate.
  5. This position is considered sedentary work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(a)). Sedentary work involves lifting no more than 10 pounds at a time and requires occasional lifting, carrying, walking, and standing.
