The Law Enforcement Training and Standards Board (ILETSB) invites qualified candidates to apply for the position of Specialized Training Assistant. The ideal candidate for this position will have the ability to work in a fast-paced environment, have the ability to develop and maintain positive and effective professional relationships, be highly organized, and be capable of multi-tasking to keep up with the demands of a busy and growing agency. ILETSB is conveniently located at the southern edge of downtown Springfield in a beautifully maintained building across from the Lincoln’s Home National Historic Site with free secured parking on-site. Essential Functions
- Types statutorily required information into the Police Training Board (PTB), Law Enforcement Document Interchange (LEDI), and Law Enforcement Training Management (LETM) database applications pertaining to employment data and training status of municipal and county law enforcement and correctional officers
- Provides clerical office support to professional staff within the Specialized Programs department and throughout the Training Division, on various projects and training conferences
- Receives and responds to inquiries from municipal and county law enforcement agencies, Mobile Team Units (MTUs) and Academies in order to verify and disseminate the data submitted by the agency into the PTB, LEDI, and LETM database applications
- Prepares and maintains an up-to-date filing system for files pertaining to the Board’s Specialized Training Program department and throughout the Training Division, in accordance with both Board policy and the Illinois Police Training Act
- Performs the duties of receptionist in the Board office
- Develops and maintains a strong working knowledge of changes in the Board’s evolving office procedures
Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of high school and one year of related office experience
- Requires the ability to keyboard accurately at 35 words per minute
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers prior work history within the law enforcement training or criminal justice field
- Prefers working knowledge of alpha-numeric sequencing
- Prefers working knowledge of office practices, procedures, and programs
- Prefers working knowledge of grammar, spelling, and punctuation
- Prefers working knowledge of basic mathematics
- Prefers ability to follow oral and/or written instructions
- Prefers ability to operate commonly used manual and automated office equipment and perform routine maintenance
- Prefers proficiency in Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, Excel, and Internet applications
