Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Transportation is seeking to hire a Mail Services Unit Manager. The successful candidate will manage the centralized, automated full-service mail facility servicing multiple department locations statewide, including District 6, District 7, Day Labor and Aeronautics.
Essential Functions
- Under direction, serves as the Mail Services Unit Manager for the Illinois Department of Transportation. Organizes, plans, executes, controls and evaluates the operation of the full-service mail facility serving multiple department locations statewide.
- Develops and implements statewide departmental mail and postal procedures.
- Monitors and coordinates the operation of a unique parcel shipping computer system.
- Manages the receiving dock area.
- Serves as a working supervisor.
- Oversees financial transactions and the management of the unit’s budget.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of college, preferably with coursework in business or public administration.
- Requires one year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization or completion of an agency approved professional management training program.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers one (1) year of supervisory experience.
- Prefers working knowledge of UPS and USPS rates and services.
- Prefers working knowledge of Central Management Services (CMS) Mail Messenger Services.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires successful completion of a background check and self-disclosure of criminal history.
- Requires ability to travel occasionally in the performance of duties, to attend training or business-related conferences, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
