Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity (DCEO) is seeking a purpose-driven, detail-oriented professional to join our team in the Office of Entrepreneurship, Innovation & Technology (EIT). This position plays a critical role in supporting the design, implementation, and compliance of state tax incentive programs that help drive business growth and redevelopment across Illinois. As a Tax Incentive Program Coordinator, you will help review and manage applications, develop program materials, and guide businesses through eligibility and compliance processes. You’ll also collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, support outreach and education efforts, and work to ensure the accuracy and integrity of program administration. Essential Functions

  • Serves as a Tax Incentive Program Coordinator, organizes, plans, and executes the development and implementation of assigned sections of EIT’s tax credit programs.
  • Assists in educating the community on the department’s tax credit programs.
  • Serves as a liaison for the administration of tax credits.
  • Assists the EIT Program Manager in the calculation of tax credits and reporting.
  • Performs other duties as assigned or required, which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college, preferably with courses in business or public administration.
  • Requires one (1) year of responsible administrative experience in a public or business organization.

Specialized Skills

Two (2) years of experience managing an extensive database with multiple workflows in Excel or equivalent applications.

One (1) year of experience administering tax-related or financial programs.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Prefers at least two (2) years of experience managing an extensive database with multiple workflows in Excel or equivalent applications.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience administrating tax-related or financial programs.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year working with federal, state, or local permits, licenses, and regulatory processes for small businesses.
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience with business and accounting practices. 
  • Prefers at least one (1) year of experience with a Customer Relationship Management (CRM) system.
  • Prefer intermediate-level experience in Microsoft Office Suite products, including Excel.

Conditions of Employment

  • Requires ability to pass a background check.
  • Requires appropriate, valid driver’s license.
  • Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.
