Position Overview
This position is responsible for innovating and optimizing digital interfaces of the department’s web and mobile applications. The incumbent applies user-centered design principles and technological expertise to create accessible, efficient, and secure solutions that empower end users, drive engagement, and achieve the department’s objectives.
Essential Functions
- Collaborates with stakeholders and end-users to understand their challenges and requirements.
- Designs intuitive and user-friendly interfaces for web and mobile applications, compliant with government accessibility standards and guidelines.
- Conducts user journey research and mapping, through interviews, surveys, and usability testing, to gather insights and validate design decisions.
- Creates wireframes, prototypes, and mockups to communicate design concepts and facilitate feedback.
- Works closely with developers to ensure the feasibility and implementation of designs within project timelines and constraints.
- Iterates designs based on user feedback, analytics, and usability testing results.
- Contributes to developing and maintaining design standards and style guides to ensure consistency across applications.
- Stays informed about industry trends, best practices, and emerging technologies to improve design processes and outcomes continuously.
- Collaborates with cross-functional teams, including project managers, developers, and content creators, to deliver high-quality user experiences that meet project goals and objectives.
- Adheres to government regulations, security policies, and privacy requirements throughout the design process.
- Performs duties in compliance with departmental safety rules. Performs all duties in a manner conducive to the fair and equitable treatment of all employees.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Completion of a bachelor’s degree majoring in Graphic Design, Human-Computer Interaction, Computer Science, or Information Technology, PLUS three years of experience in UI/UX design utilizing tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD, Adobe Pro) and/or Figma to design digital interfaces for web and mobile applications, conducting user journey research and mapping, high-fidelity wireframes, usability testing, iterative design processes, implementing government regulations, accessibility standards, and security protocols, or a combination thereof, OR Eleven years of experience in UI/UX design utilizing tools such as Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Illustrator, InDesign, XD, Adobe Pro) and/or Figma to design digital interfaces for web and mobile applications, conducting user journey research and mapping, high-fidelity wireframes, usability testing, and iterative design processes, implementing governmental regulations, accessibility standards, and security protocols, or a combination thereof.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience and/or understanding of government regulations, accessibility standards, and security protocols such as IITAA, Section 508, and WCAG2.0 AA.
- Experience with Adobe experience management platform and adobe assets.
- Knowledge of HTML5, JSON, CSS3, and JavaScript to collaborate effectively with developers.
- Experience with user research methods, including usability testing and user interviews.
- Collaboration and communication skills to work effectively with cross-functional teams.
- Adaptability to iterate and refine designs based on feedback and changing project requirements.
- Attention to detail and desire for creating intuitive and visually appealing user interfaces.
- Awareness of current design trends and emerging technologies in the IT industry.
