Position Overview:
The Statewide Intake Administrator oversees all aspects of assessment and program assignment for youth committed to the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ). Intake activities occur both in local detention centers before youth are transported to IDJJ and within IDJJ facilities after they arrive. The Intake team includes Youth and Family Specialists (case managers) along with licensed behavioral health clinicians. Intake can be a fast-paced effort, but gathering appropriate information and making the best programming recommendation is key to IDJJ’s success. The Statewide Intake Administrator is responsible for implementing a team approach to completing intake.
Essential Functions:
- Under Administrative Direction, serves as the Statewide Intake Administrator, responsible for all aspects of the Department’s intake policies and procedures.
- Reviews and approves each intake prior to assignment.
- Serves as full line supervisor for Department staff assigned to intake.
- Implements quality assurance activities to ensure Intake objectives are met.
- Prepares, reviews, and analyzes length of stay, Performance-based Standards, and monthly indicator reports for Department administration.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of four (4) years of college.
- Requires three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience in the fields of law enforcement or corrections.
Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance):
- Prefers a bachelor's degree in counseling or related social sciences degree, with coursework in the behavioral or social sciences, law enforcement, criminal justice, or social work.
- Prefers three (3) years progressively responsible professional experience in law enforcement, criminal justice, social services, or counseling work in a public or private organization working directly with youth in juvenile services.
- Prefers three (3) years of professional experience supervising professional staff and using managerial techniques and principles.
- Prefers three (3) years of progressively responsible administrative experience preferably in human services or justice field.
- Prefers three (3) years of professional experience providing assessments and case management services.
- Prefers one (1) year professional experience in setting and implementing policy.
- Prefers one (1) year professional experience managing quality assurance activities.
Conditions of Employment:
- Requires the ability to pass an IDJJ/IDOC background check.
- Requires the ability to pass an IDJJ/IDOC drug screening.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires an appropriate valid, driver’s license.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
- This position has been found to meet the requirements in section 4A-101 of the Illinois Governmental Ethics Act requiring the occupant/employee to file a Statement of Economic Interest. The Illinois Governmental Ethics Act (5 ILCS 420/4A et seq.) requires certain state officials and employees to file annual Statements of Economic Interest with the Office of the Secretary of State that will be made available for examination and copying by the public. All employees required to file a Statement of Economic Interest are also required to file the Supplemental Statement of Economic Interest with the Executive Ethics Commission. (See Executive Order 15-09) Fines and penalties apply to untimely filings.

The mission of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) is to build youth skills and strengthen families by promoting community safety and positive youth outcomes. Over 900 staff members from across various departments—security, programming, education, mental health, and more—collaborate with the understanding that youth are physically, emotionally, and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency, engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois’ communities.
