SITE SUPERINTENDENT III

Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is looking to hire a Site Superintendent 3 for Starved Rock State Park which includes it's satellites - Matthiessen, Mitchell's Grove Nature Preserve, Sandy Ford Natural Area, and Margery Carlson Nature Preserve. This position will exercise budgetary controls with operating and capital improvement budgets, inspect facilities for preventative maintenance planning, oversee site security/safety programs, review, analyze and incorporate proposals concerning short and long plans for site maintenance, promote department programs, and serve as department representative and appear at public hearings. The ideal candidate will be able to utilize their supervisory experience, problem solving skills, independent research ability and public speaking skills. Starved Rock is characterized by the many canyons within its 2,630 acres. The Park hosts over two million visitors annually and is located just southeast of the village of Utica, in Deer Park Township, LaSalle County. Essential Functions

• Under direction, manages the operation of Starved Rock State Park and its satellites - Matthiessen, Mitchell's Grove Nature Preserve, Sandy For Natural Area, and Margery Carlson Nature Preserve.
• Serves as full-time supervisor
• Monitors and participates in the preparation/maintenance of site operations and financial records/reports
• Plans, coordinates, and implements site activities and programs compatible with the natural and cultural resource base
• Serves as department liaison with various groups and individuals
• Assists visitors and the general public with site information, policies and procedures
• Assists in implementing the safety and security program at the sites
• Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above

Minimum Qualifications

• Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to a bachelor's degree in park and recreation administration, or natural resource area administration, or in museum administration, history, American studies, or archeology.
• Requires four years of supervisory experience in managing an outdoor recreation park, or natural public area, or a cultural/historic site or museum.

Preferred Qualifications

• Two (2) years of thorough knowledge of the principles and practices of site administration including site interpretation, natural and/or cultural resources management, structural grounds maintenance, public relations, personnel administration, fiscal management, and outdoor recreation programs.
• Two (2) years of experience assigning and supervising the work of assistants and staff members
• Two (2) years of experience applying appropriate levels of knowledge in problem solving situations encountered in the performance of duties and responsibilities
• Two (2) years of experience evaluating program effectiveness and making recommendations on policies and procedures
• Two (2) years of experience expressing ideas clearly and concisely, both orally and in writing.

• Valid driver's license
• Requires ability to obtain pesticide operator's license within 6 months of employment
• Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year-round basis
• Requires physical ability to operate and maintain tools, equipment, and materials utilized in the maintenance, repair, and care of site resources, buildings, and grounds
• Requires ability to lift, carry, and transport loads exceeding sixty pounds
• Requires ability to walk over rough and broken terrain
• Requires ability to obtain and maintain First Aid/CPR Certificate
