Position Overview
The Illinois Department of Corrections is looking for a candidate to serve as a Steamfitter to work at Vienna Correctional Center. This position is responsible for cleaning and replacing pipe fittings, repairing, installing, and maintaining high and low pressure steam lines, repairing and maintaining refrigeration equipment/HVAC equipment, refrigerant piping, pneumatic piping and controls for condensers and evaporators. The successful candidate will also supervise and train unskilled workers and individuals in custody while enforcing and maintaining security, safety, and custodial measures. Essential Functions
- Cleans and replaces defective pipe and fittings.
- Repairs, installs, and maintains high- and low-pressure steam lines, traps, valves, pump connections, expansion joints, air and vacuum systems, gas and brine pipes and radiators.
- Repairs and maintains refrigeration equipment/HVAC equipment, refrigerant piping, pneumatic piping, and controls for condensers and evaporators.
- Supervises and trains unskilled workers and individuals in custody at Vienna Correctional Center in the craft.
- Enforces and maintains security, safety, and custodial measures.
- Maintains stock and orders materials and supplies.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires experience necessary to qualify as a Journeyman Steamfitter.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers at least four (4) years of experience working with pipe fitting and structural attachments.
- Prefers at least four (4) years of experience working with low- and high-pressure steam systems, chillers, welding, and plumbing.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience problem solving, tracking data, and measuring gauges as it applies to the craft.
- Prefers at least two (2) years of experience applying construction codes, laws, regulations, tools, methods, practices, and limitations of the trade.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of the position held, is prohibited.
- Applicants are required to abide by all vaccine and/or other medical standards as set out by the employer.
- Must possess a valid certificate of a Universal Technician Under US EPA Section 608.
