Position Overview:

The Department of Juvenile Justice is seeking a motivated and skilled candidate to serve as the Corrections Supply Supervisor. The ideal candidate for this position will possess previous merchandise distribution experience and will be comfortable leading by example and providing instruction to the youth in our care. The incumbent in this position will have a working knowledge of storekeeping and warehousing methods and procedures, and also have a working knowledge of inventory and other control methods and procedures. Essential Functions:

  • Receives, checks, stores, prices and distributes merchandise for all stores.
  • Maintains records for the various store purchases to ensure a clear audit trail identifying the flow of equipment and commodities through receipt, distribution and reassignment.
  • Monitors and coordinates the work assignments of youth to ensure proper preparation of receiving reports, posting receiving reports and requisitions to perpetual inventory system.
  • Verifies compliance with safety and sanitation procedures for all areas.

Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of four years of high school or completion of an approved training course.
  • Requires two years experience in the keeping of stores and store records.

Preferred Qualifications (In Order of Significance):

  • Prefers thorough knowledge of institutional rules, regulations and requirements for the control of youth.
  • Prefers working knowledge of storekeeping and warehousing methods and procedures.
  • Prefers working knowledge of inventory and other control methods and procedures.
  • Prefers working knowledge of transportation agencies and of shipping, purchasing and requisitioning methods and procedures.
  • Prefers ability to enforce disciplinary, safety, security and custodial measures for the control of residents.

Conditions of Employment:

  • Requires the ability to pass an IDOC/IDJJ background check.
  • Requires ability to pass a drug screen. The use of unauthorized drugs by an employee, regardless of position held, is prohibited.
  • This position is considered heavy work as defined by the U.S. Department of Labor (20 CFR 404.1567(d)). Heavy work involves lifting no more than 100 pounds at a time with frequent lifting or carrying of objects weighing up to 50 pounds.
  • Requires completion of approved course in guard training within six months of employment.
  • Requires physical ability to carry out duties as assigned.

The mission of the Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) is to build youth skills and strengthen families by promoting community safety and positive youth outcomes. Over 900 staff members from across various departments—security, programming, education, mental health, and more—collaborate with the understanding that youth are physically, emotionally, and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency, engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois’ communities.
