Position Overview:
The Illinois Department of Juvenile Justice (IDJJ) is seeking a motivated candidate to serve as the School Psychologist for their Illinois Youth Center (IYC) located in Warrenville. The ideal candidate for this role will possess previous psychological experience in an educational setting, have a positive mindset, and be passionate about making a difference in the lives of at-risk youth in our care. In this position, the incumbent will complete student evaluations, implement behavioral testing/scoring, and conduct group and individual
counseling. The incumbent in this position will serve as the school psychologist for their assigned facility, as well as assisting with special education evaluations and re-evaluations as well as ensuring an environment that fosters growth and opportunity for the youth in our care. Essential Functions:
- Administers and scores psychological tests, assessing areas of intelligence, visual motor skills, memory, personality, academic achievement, vocational interests, aptitudes, language, communication skills, reports and interprets results to management.
- Prepares reports based upon test results and observations. Recommends educational methods psychiatric and special program referrals and changes in educational programming and vocational training.
- Provides psychological expertise at consultations and staffings with management, educators, vocational evaluators and other professional personnel related to students' aptitude, learning problems, educational placement and behavior modification.
- Conducts individual and group counseling, assessing and assisting students with academic, social and behavioral problems: provides recommendations to Educators, Counselors and staff for changes to educational programming and social behavioral conditioning.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Requires the School Psychologist Endorsement from the Illinois State Board of Education.
- Requires a master's degree in psychology or educational psychology from a recognized college or university approved by the State Board of Education, supplemented by one ( 1) school year's supervised professional psychological experience with children of school age.
Conditions of Employment:
- Requires ability to pass the IDOC/IDJJ background check.
- Requires the ability to pass an IDJJ/IDOC Drug Screening.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate.

Over 900 staff members from across various departments—security, programming, education, mental health, and more—collaborate with the understanding that youth are physically, emotionally, and cognitively different from adults. The department provides extensive services to young people through a developmental, treatment-focused model of care that builds youth resiliency, engages families, and promotes community safety at the five youth facilities it operates across the state. IDJJ serves and houses approximately 150 youth and is responsible for approximately 500 youth on Aftercare in various Illinois’ communities.
