Position Overview
The Division of Developmental Disabilities is seeking to hire a Mental Health Technician I for the Kiley Developmental Center located in Waukegan, Illinois to receive training in and performing beginning level duties in a living or work area in the direct care of individuals on an assigned unit on an assigned shift. Documents progress in an individual’s active treatment plan or other designated records. Ensures compliance with Illinois Department of Public Health requirements when performing duties. Documents routine data on individuals and charts progress report records. Performs general housekeeping tasks. Receives training in and assists higher level technicians with escorting and taking part in individual’s activity/recreational programs.
Essential Functions
- Receives training in and performs beginning level duties in a living or work area in the direct care of individuals on an assigned unit on an assigned shift.
- Receives guidance from higher level staff in the observing and reporting of the condition and behavior or individuals.
- Performs general housekeeping tasks, such as, spot mopping, cleaning spills, wiping tables and making beds.
- Receives training in and assists higher level technicians with escorting and taking part in individual’s activity/recreational programs, including swimming, bowling, skating and trips to the zoo and lake.
- Under supervision, performs simple nursing procedures such as, temperature, pulse, respiration (TPR), blood pressure (BP), weights, collects specimens for lab.
- Completes all in service training for the Mental Health Technician II position.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of those duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill and mental development equivalent to completion of high school.
- Requires successful completion of a comprehensive training program at the Mental Health Technical Trainee level.
Conditions of Employment
- Requires the ability to physically restrain individuals as necessary to prevent injury to individual or others.
- Requires the ability to work after business hours, weekends and holidays.
- Requires the ability to utilize office equipment, including personal computers.
- Requires the ability to participate in heavy lifting and carrying of individuals.
- Requires the ability to travel in the performance of job duties.
- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
