Job Responsibilities

Under direct supervision, performs routine, repetitive unskilled manual tasks associated with support services at Kiley Center, including exterior building and campus clean-up including lawn care and snow removal, dietary tasks including meal distribution and clean-up, laundry tasks, housekeeping, and clothing services. Uses and performs simple maintenance on standard equipment and machinery, ensuring compliance with Public Health standards, facility and department policies and procedures. Completes simple clerical tasks including completing work orders, supply orders and routine logs and reports.

 

SPECIFICALLY:

 

20%       Performs routine, repetitive unskilled manual tasks associated with support services, including exterior building and campus clean-up, lawn care and snow removal, dietary tasks including meal distribution and clean-up, laundry tasks. housekeeping and clothing services. Follows Public Health standards, facility and department policies and established procedures, to ensure the timely and accurate completion of services. Monitors assigned schedule, following up with supervisor regarding any issues which arise while completing assigned duties.

 

20%       Uses and performs simple maintenance on standard equipment and machinery, ensuring compliance with Public Health standards, facility and department policies and procedures. Uses maintenance equipment and machinery to sweep, scrub, mop, strip, seal, wax, and buff floors. Follows facility safety precautions in the use and handling of supplies, tools, equipment, and machinery while working in and around residential and training sites. Sweeps and thoroughly cleans and sanitizes bathrooms, halls, stairs and living areas. Washes walls, windows, water fountains, mirrors, polishes woodwork, cleans light fixtures and heating and air conditioner vents. Dusts assigned areas and removes trash from waste baskets ensuring proper disposal of trash and infectious waste.

 

20%       Performs routine food service tasks in the kitchen. Assists in the preparation of food for cooking, in the cooking operations and serving food items for patients. Cleans and prepares fruits and vegetables. Utilizes peelers, food choppers, steam kettle, blenders, food processors and vertical cutters to slice, dice, and chop food. Lifts prepared food pans and cartons onto delivery carts. Cleans and sanitizes pots, pans, and cooking utensils manually and in dish washer. Cleans and maintains sanitary standards of kitchen and storerooms by washing, mopping, dusting, walls, windows, appliances, fixtures, lights, hoods, ceilings, and equipment. Lifts and carries food items weighing in excess of 75lbs with assistance from carts to freezer, from freezer to shelving, and from preparation area to carts for transportation to other work areas; pushes/pulls carts for delivery. Dates, labels, and stores food supplies in pantry, walk-ins, and freezers. Instructs or directs other workers assigned to the dietary department in preparation of food items.

Job Responsibilities (continued)

20%       Follows established procedures and performs general laundry functions including marking patients' clothing and institution linens. Prints patient's name on tag, presses clothing with pressing machine. Delivers patient and state furnished clothes and linens to the units in push carts. Inspects patients personal clothing to ensure name/unit is visible; remarks patients clothing if name/unit are not visible. Assists in fitting and ward clothing operations. Marks and delivers clothing; uses push carts to pick-up soiled linens and clothing from assigned units pushing/pulling carts weighing up 400 lbs. with assistance; returns to work area and sorts clothing and linens for washing. Sorts and folds clean linens and clothing and places on carts for transportation to proper units. Prepares clothing bundles for patients including patients personal clothing when discharged.

 

15%       Completes simple clerical tasks including completing work orders, supply orders and routine logs and reports. Maintains adequate supplies for assigned areas, keeps records, and inventories and submits work and supply orders. ensuring for proper rotation of stock. Notifies supervisor of physical plant, dietary or clothing deficiencies. Performs simple maintenance of standard equipment and machinery.

 

5%         Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of High School supplemented by six months experience in the support service functional area to which assigned.

 

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

Requires working knowledge of routine tasks commonly found in the area of assignment. Requires skill in the basic operation of machinery and equipment in the assigned area. Requires ability to instruct others in simple methods and procedures common to the area.

Employment Conditions

Per P.A. 098-0566 - requires ability to complete an ANSI accredited food handling training course within 30 days of employment. Requires the ability to perform heavy physical work and lift in excess of 75 pounds with assistance.
