Position Overview

The Illinois Department of Natural Resources is seeking to hire Site Technician II's at Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park for The Office of Land Management. This position will mow, pick up litter, haul trash, plow snow, patch roads, maintain firepits and grills, make minor electrical repairs, and perform minor plumbing and HVAC maintenance.  Overlooking the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers'​ 19,000-acre Rend Lake Reservoir, Wayne Fitzgerrell SRA is a gateway to Southern Illinois' biggest outdoor playground - a paradise for outdoor recreation for all ages and interests. The park offers outstanding opportunities for hunting, fishing, camping, picnicking, hiking and other outdoor recreational pursuits. We welcome all interested candidates to apply.

Essential Functions

  • Performs routine tasks related to outdoor recreational programs.
  • Performs habitat management, landscaping, and groundskeeping duties.
  • Performs maintenance and repairs to site equipment and facilities.
  • Performs semi-skilled work and travels in the maintenance, operation, and improvement of Wayne Fitzgerrell State Park and Region 5.
  • Assists in assuring the safety and security of the site and visiting public.
  • Engages in hunting programs.
  • Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

  • Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Two (2) years of working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment or farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
  • Two (2) years of experience following written and oral instructions.
  • One (1) year of experience informing visitors of site facilities, programs, rules, and regulations.
  • One (1) year of experience in outdoor recreation.
  • One (1) year of experience in groundskeeping.

Charged with preserving, protecting, and promoting Illinois' natural resources, the Illinois Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) employees oversee water, wildlife, wetlands and oil wells, parks, historic sites - and everything in between. Office of Land Management

The Office of Land Management (OLM) oversees nearly 400 individual parcels of land and institutes a wide variety of programs and activities advocating outdoor recreation through sustainable use, conservation, and preservation. The Historic Sites Division of the Office of Land Management oversees 57 Historic Sites, Monuments, and Memorials. OLM facilitates activities from small group interpretive programming at Historical Sites, to hiking, hunting, fishing, boating, and camping.

Work Hours: 2 positions with 2 schedules, both including a 1/2 hr. Lunch 

Position 1: February 1st thru October 31st: 2:30pm till 10:30pm (Wednesday/Thursday off)
November 1st thru January 31st:  6:30am till 2:30pm (Wednesday/Thursday off)

Position 2: February 1st thru October 31st: 7:30 am -3:30pm (Monday/Tuesday off)
November 1st thru January 31st: 6:30am -330pm (Monday/Tuesday off)
