Position Statement

The Office of Land Management is seeking to hire a Site Technician 2 for the Illinois Beach State Park in the Region 2 area.  Under direct supervision, performs a variety of semi-skilled tasks in maintaining and repairing equipment used in the operation of the park at Illinois Beach State Park; works and communicates closely with other tradesmen to ensure safety of job duties.  Adjusts and regulates function parts and controls equipment and systems for optimum performance.  Maintains operational activities including mowing grass, trim trees, plows snow and patches roads. 

Job Responsibilities

  1. Performs a variety of semi-skilled task in the maintenance of equipment used in the operation of the park at Illinois Beach State Park; utilizes a variety of hand and power tools and testing equipment; observes mechanical devices in operation and makes a diagnosis of the problems through evaluation of characteristics such as sound, vibration, temperature and performance; makes minor repairs to plumbing and electrical; dismantles equipment to gain access to defective assemblies or parts.
  2. Adjusts and regulates function parts and controls equipment and systems for optimum pertormance. Performs routine equipment maintenance such a lubrication, belt adjustments and cleaning. Directs and participates in routine cleaning of park buildings; litter pick-up and maintenance of the park grounds.
  3. On an intermittent or seasonal basis provides leadership and direction to seasonal employees, volunteers and other staff engaged in routine site maintenance and operational activities including mowing grass, trim trees, plows snow and patches roads; provides guidance, training, and direction in the efficient completion of assigned duties: Notifying appropriate authorities in the event of emergencies, disturbances or criminal activity.
  4. Participates in providing safety and security of the site, site property, employees and the visiting public; directing traffic; works and communicates closely with other tradesmen such as electricians, plumbers, carpenters and machinists to ensure safety of job duties.
  5. Performs other duties and responsibilities as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.

Minimum Qualifications

Requires education and experience equivalent to high school graduation and two (2) years maintenance or farming experience preferably associated with the building trades and/or the operation of heavy equipment and machinery.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  1. Requires working knowledge of tools and equipment used in the trades and/or operation of heavy equipment of farm machinery and implements and/or warehousing.
  2. Requires ability to follow written and oral instructions.
  3. Requires ability to inform visitors of site facilities, programs, rules and regulations.

Physical Requirements

  • Requires ability to withstand exposure to the elements on a year round basis.

Employment Conditions

  • Requires ability to pass background check.
  • Requires possession of a valid Driver's License.
  • Requires ability to obtain a herbicide or pesticide applicator's license within the first 6 months of employment.
