Position Overview
The Division of Behavioral Health and Recovery is seeking to hire an Educator for the Elizabeth Packard Mental Health Center located in Springfield, Illinois to evaluate educational development and learning readiness. Uses professional teaching skills to promote the habilitation, rehabilitation, daily living and prevocational skills of adults with intellectual disabilities. Plans, directs, implements, and evaluates the educational program for adult psychiatric patients at Elizabeth Packard Mental Health Center.
Essential Functions
- Evaluates educational development and learning readiness, and uses professional teaching skills to promote the habilitation, rehabilitation, daily living and prevocational skills of adults with intellectual disabilities.
- Assists the Central Program staff in the development and implementation of vocational training programs for adult patients.
- Assists the coordinator of the Central Psycho-Social Rehabilitation Program in evaluation and revision of program components.
- Conducts, analyzes and interprets diagnostic studies and examinations to determine educational deficiencies of adult patients.
- Evaluates effectiveness of the education program.
- Assists residency and student training coordinator with communication and placement of student teachers, practicum students, and intern students between the facility and area universities which pertain to special education classrooms.
- Serves as a member of a multi-disciplinary psycho-social rehabilitation team.
- Performs other duties as required of assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires possession of a current and valid ISBE-issued Professional Educator License with special education endorsement.
Preferred Qualifications
- One (1) year of professional experience preparing and teaching adult-level special education and vocational/habilitation instruction for a public or private organization.
- One (1) year of professional experience assessing vocational and academic skills, knowledge and abilities using standardized tools (i.e., achievement tests and vocational diagnostics) for a public or private organization.
- One (1) year of professional experience preparing and maintaining detailed educational/vocational documentation consistent with federal, state and accreditation standards.
- One (1) year of professional experience working with individuals with intellectual disabilities.

- Requires ability to pass the IDHS background check.
- Requires ability to pass a drug screen for drugs prohibited from recreational use under Illinois Law.
