Position Summary
Have accounting experience? Strong organization and communication skills? The Illinois Department of Central Management Services is seeking to bring aboard an experienced Account Technician to assist with accounts, verification of invoices, processing payments, researching past expenditures, and tracking non-recurring items with the Bureau of Property Management. This position will also work closely with vendors and contractors regarding account items. All are encouraged to apply!
Position Essential Functions
- Under direction of the Contracts/Obligations Manager, independently performs technical accounting work in processing vouchers and maintaining state funds.
- Reviews payment documents submitted and determines the accuracy of invoices submitted for payment.
- Serves as designated lead worker for technical accounting staff.
- Processes complex payment transactions in SAP, including but not limited to travel, commodities, equipment, communications, and service.
- Provides information to Agency personnel, as well as vendors, regarding the rules and regulations of Agency operations and the procedures and general knowledge of Property Management Fiscal.
- Performs other duties as required or assigned which are reasonably within the scope of the duties enumerated above.
Minimum Qualifications
- Requires knowledge, skill, and mental development equivalent to completion of two (2) years of college and one (1) year of technical accounting experience or four (4) years of related clerical bookkeeping experience.
Preferred Qualifications
- Prefers two (2) years of professional experience performing technical accounting functions, including reviewing, auditing, coding, and processing invoices for accuracy and compliance with established policies and contracts.
- Prefers two (2) years of professional experience working with enterprise financial management systems (such as SAP or similar platforms) to process payments, apply cost codes, review documentation, and reconcile financial transactions.
- Prefers two (2) years of professional experience providing technical guidance, training, or lead‑worker support to staff performing accounting or fiscal duties, including reviewing work, answering procedural questions, and assisting with workflow coordination.
- Prefers two (2) years of professional experience preparing or analyzing financial reports, reconciliations, and expenditure summaries for budgeting, forecasting, or fiscal review purposes, using tools such as Excel and other similar accounting systems.
- Prefers working knowledge of accounting principles and internal control practices, including tracing expenditures, reviewing supporting documents, and ensuring proper cost allocation across accounts or cost centers.

- Overtime is a condition of employment, and you may be requested or required/mandated to work overtime including scheduled, unscheduled, or last-minute overtime. This may require the ability to work evenings and weekends.
- Requires ability to travel in the performance of duties, with overnight stays as appropriate. Requires a valid driver’s license.
- Requires the ability to use agency technology/equipment (i.e., mobile phone, laptop, etc.) properly in accordance with information security awareness policies and confidentiality guidelines.
- Requires ability to attend seminars, conferences, and trainings to stay current on methods, tools, ideologies, or other industry related topics relevant to the job duties.
